Sorority Recruitment Outfits

Hello! Long time, no see! I am currently trying to get back into blogging and possibly YouTube so please bare with me.

As I finished my Freshman Year of college, I am preparing for my Sophomore Year. I have decided that I would Rush during my first few weeks back at school. I have watched SO many, not an exaggeration, ‘sorority outfits and what to expect videos’ to get an idea of the process. I am currently rematching the TV show “Greek” and reading blogs which makes me more excited about the whole thing!

I will be providing an idea of what I might possibly wear during the rounds and hope you get some inspiration from them as well!.

Round 1and 2: This round is when you are in your groups and visit each sorority house. Usually it takes 2 days for each round, depending on how many houses there are. This day requires you to wear the shirt that you were given with cute shorts or skirt and comfortable walking shoes.

I found these shorts from Francesca’s so make sure to find a pair that will match your t shirts. I am in to flowy shorts because it is going to be extremely hot and I hate the feeling of sweaty jean shorts. You will need to find shorts that are appropriate and great to make a first impression so no rips and no short shorts.
I picked shorts over skirts because me and skirts/dresses do not have the best relationship because they always tend to fly up :).

Round 3: For my school, this is the Philanthropy round. It is different for every school so make sure to learn what the schedule is. This round is where you dress up a bit, wear a cute little sundress and some heels (preferably wedges) that you can possibly walk in. You will be able to learn about each of their philanthropy and their activities.

All these dresses are from Lulus. I have been obsessed with the cold shoulder look so the first 2 I absolutely love. Some are casual sundresses, some are more fancier, I think it depends on how you are feeling that day.

Round 4: Preference is the time where you need to be the most dressiest. It is the final round during recruitment where you will visit the final 2 houses. This is a really important round so you want to be your best and look your best. You will need to find a cocktail style dress and a nice pair heels.

All these dresses are also from Lulus. Yes, I absolutely love the trend of off the shoulder. These are some of my picks and I might end up getting the purple one. I have been told that the active sisters wear black so try to stay away from that the best you can.

Round 5: Bid Day is the last day of Rush where after everything, you will find out what sorority gave you a bid. This is the most exciting day and most comfortable outfit by wearing a tank top, gym shorts and running shoes because you might have to run far to your new house!

I hope you are excited for Rush as much as I am and I hope I helped with inspiration on what to wear. I will try to create a blogpost on what I end up wearing.

Don’t be nervous, have fun, and be yourself!

Until next time!

What I Learned While Being in a Relationship

Being 19 years old, I don’t know too much of life, but I have been through a lot. I have dealt with depression, anxiety, horrible friends, fuck boys, harassment, bullying but nothing compares to dealing with love.

Due to my heart being screwed over by boys who would like me one day and toss me aside the next, happened within the first week at college, it scares me to be in a relationship. I actually met my current boyfriend when I was trying to save something that was never started with another boy, who also lives on the same floor with him.

After dealing with the first boy at college and a boy earlier in the year, I was not interested in looking to start anything anymore. I felt more comfortable talking to my current boyfriend more than the other guy, and I was upset because I was not interested in him at that moment. After the last straw, I gave up and I was asked out to dinner. After a room organization, Walmart trip, a fashion show and a Spiderman style kiss later, I agreed to have dinner in his room.

He made steak for me on his little small grill and having never tried real steak before, I was scared to try it. I am not much of a meat eater so he made me microwaveable Mac and Cheese, a birthday cake and a make out session later, we became official.

Having never been in a real relationship, I personally did not know what to expect. Although I was happy, at the same time I felt scared. With all my past relationships, I felt like I was going to be a bother to him and how he will change his mind about me. But almost 2 months into our relationship, I am glad nothing worked out with anyone else. Waiting for someone that makes you feel happy is always worth it.

I promise I am not saying that I am the Ultimate Love Expert because I am obviously not. But when the past relationships make you wonder why nothing else ever worked until the right person comes into your life.

Never give in to anyone who doesn’t love you as much as you love them. Love is about communicating and friendship. You should feel comfortable in a relationship and if they are doing something that upsets you, tell them to stop. A relationship shouldn’t be forced and always ask questions. There would be nights where me and my boyfriend would try to sleep but end up talking for a few more hours because we would want to know more about one another.

The past was hard but always remember the future will be even better with the person you love.

The next time you are in a relationship, think about how you feel within it. For the past relationships, it was easy to tell that they were all going to end but when it is the right one, it feels different. I can’t wait for the future.

How to Survive A College Football Game

Growing up no where near a college, I never went to a college football game so when it came to my first home game, I was nervous. And since my football team is part of the SEC, the most watched conference throughout football (Alabama is apart of the SEC), it was quite an affair.

There is a huge different between regular football teams and SEC teams, since the Gamecocks played against East Carolina it wasn’t considered an SEC game. SEC games involve tailgating with LOTS of Southern Food, fancy dresses and team spirit of course!

To go to an SEC, the outfits are both sophisticated and casual. Girls wear pearls, cowboy boots and rompers while the boys wore tennis shoes, button ups and bow ties. The rules I heard were if it was SEC official game, I was suppose to wear a dress but since it wasn’t I wore a jersey matching with my very cute boyfriend. The way I see it and many others that it shouldn’t matter what type of game it is, just wear what is considered comfortable.img_2891

The next thing is to hang out with friends. Since my boyfriend had his family tailgating, we did’t need to worry about that. We brought a few of our friends over to have some food and meet his family. Since I am considered a ‘Yankee’, a family member of his suggested I try a piece of a Southern brand bread, it was literally the same thing as regular bread. And I had a bunch of hot dogs because I am such a picky eater.

Friends make everything more fun!

The game is always fun, USC is known for their chant during the song Odyssey: 2001 and their sand storming with towels. Being very high up was scary but it didn’t bother me too much once that game started. Seeing everyone from the school showing pride made me so excited for my next few years!

Although we are not the best team in the SEC, we do show a lot of spirit! Remember to stay safe before, during and after the game. It is always fun when you get into the school spirit and being goofy with your friends!

Dorm Room Essentials from Bed, Bath and Beyond*

I have been waiting for this this time of year to finally buy materials for my dorm room. There was never an idea what I had wanted to do to my room for theme wise, it is rather about what I like and incorporate with everything else. I am the type of person who loves color, more like too much color, so I decided to buy items that will not make my side of the room like a rainbow and won’t clash with my roommate and her colors.

IMG_4601 (2).JPG

I love the colors blue and gray and that they were the perfect soft touch to my room. Being extremely into fashion, I had to buy a set of hangers for all of my clothes. I think these hangers are useful because they are quite slim that no matter how many pieces of clothing I have, I would still have some room left in the closet. They have rubber ends so it helps keeping the clothes from falling off.

The gray box is a cute little bin for under bed storage, which includes striped fabric inside. I wanted something that could be neutral in the room and I was never the biggest fan of the big, see through, plastic containers. I liked the ones from Bed. Bath and Beyond because they came in a few different sizes and colors such as mint, black and gray.

I bought a small make up holder because, other than the pretty blue color, I do not have the largest collection of makeup. If you are looking for something that holds all of your makeup, think of the size of your collection. There are a few different sizes available, not matter how big the collection may be. A trick that I use is that I like to keep all of my makeup brushes in a pencil holder, it is organized and makes the room pretty based on the design of it.

This cute little garbage can was pretty unique and small enough to hide underneath my desk. I wasn’t too interested in those metal trashcans so I decided to find something different. The trashcan comes in a few different colors, including splash paint, which I had wanted to get. To keep the colors neutral, I opted for this one.

Being a college student, laundry is one of the big experiences that I will have to go through. I decided to buy a laundry bag that is completely durable and cute at the same time. Who says laundry has to be mundane? So to make it fun, I had to buy something that I love, especially one with gold polka dots.

Bed, Bath and Beyond has helped me find my college essentials without making it so difficult. I love shopping here for college materials because they have basic and unique finds at decent prices. I also love their decor and bedding that is reasonable for college student budgets. Bed, Bath and Beyond has helped me find everything on my list for my dorm.

Click! | A College Essay

As my college application process has finally ended, I wanted to share with you my favorite college essay from the College of Charleston Application. This could possibly help you in someways, or not, but I hope you enjoy what I have to say.

Question: Your YouTube channel just hit one million views. Describe your most watched video.

Click! A video appeared on my computer screen and started playing. I was staring at myself as I was talking in the video I made months ago. My eyes drifted lower on the screen to the view count. I was stunned to see the high number of views. Click! I refreshed the page and another couple of views were added. Click! I refreshed the page again and the view count for my video had reached 1 million!

I remember when I was filming this video, my nerves had me shaking at an all-time high as I tried to make the words flow. Now the same feeling I had when filming, was starting to form again in my stomach as I began to watch the video.

“How I Found Happiness” was one of the most popular videos on my YouTube channel and it was one of the most raw and authentic videos I had ever filmed. I am someone who is always giving advice, to my friends, about every situation. A few months ago, I felt like I needed to share the story of one of the most difficult times in my life. I had looked into my camera and began to tell my story.

As I sat in front of the camera, I was not sure how to continue talking without getting emotional. The cracking of my voice made me stop for a second. Everyone goes through a dark time that they must come to terms with and that was the very thing I was doing. I was sharing my story about how being bullied was not the end of my story but the very beginning.

Being judged about my shy behavior and my appearance took a major toll on me. I never felt like I fit in the crowd, but stuck out like a sore thumb. Everyone’s comments and opinions always got the best of me. I realized that everyone may have their own ideas about me, but I should not let that hurt me in any way. Eventually, I grew out of the sad state I was in. It did not make me bitter, or full of hate, but made me the strong and loving person I am today.

In the video, I explained how growing up is always hard for everyone, no matter their situation. Like others who had been bullied, I had lost who I once was and became disconnected with my surroundings. Many times when people become disconnected, they tend not to care about anything and never put any effort into getting involved. I eventually found my way out of this phase.

In my video, I talked about how I changed my perspective. I spoke about how I was beginning to see the uniqueness in every situation and how it would eventually benefit my character later in life. I learned that there are exciting moments happening every second of my life, and that it is a complete mystery as to what might happen next. I stressed to my viewers that nothing is ever going to happen unless they try to adopt a positive outlook.

As I kept talking to the camera, I was thinking that no one was going to ever click on this video and take advice from someone they did not know. Click! I refreshed the page and noticed the outpouring of comments by people who I had reached with my story. There are a million different people out there who I inspired to make a difference in their lives, and I could not have been happier.

My Major College Road Trip

I have finally finished my exams, now I have time for outfit pictures, but here are a few pictures that I found from my ‘Major College Road Trip’. One our way, we stopped at University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a beach town. And also a place where One Tree Hill was filmed, Wrightsville beach.

IMG_3765 IMG_3769 IMG_3770

We stopped at University of South Carolina, I loved the main campus with all the old architecture. Also the flowers were in bloom giving it a very romantic feel. One of my favorite teachers has gone to this school, maybe I would end up in her footsteps along with getting a job in another country.

 IMG_3772 IMG_3773 IMG_3774 IMG_3775

I went to College of Charleston to visit. I felt like maybe this could be one of my top choices. I love the nature and the city which my dad’s cousin (who was a student and now works there) showed us around. I am also on the look out for background in case I go there and I need to shoot OOTDs.

IMG_3795 IMG_3796

After trouble finding hotels due to the Masters all the way in Georgia, we woke up bright and early in a hotel by a railroad tracks and track stop (my mom was so scared that we would die by barricading the door with a chair). We were on our way to Elon, where we met up with my cousin. I thought I wouldn’t care because I would like to go somewhere else other than my cousin, but I fell in love. Elon is one of the top colleges on my list other than the beautiful campus, the communications program is literally amazing. I loved the business building and I have everything planned out from that. More like I want to major in Marketing and minor in Communications.

IMG_3827 IMG_3828

We stopped at Wake Forest to check out the campus. I would not be able to go by the tuition but my mom’s cousin had gone and she used to go see him play football. I believe the campus was really pretty, but it was not for me.

IMG_3836 IMG_3838 IMG_3839 IMG_3844

Currently, I am confused on the future and where to go because if I would be able to get in and tuition wise. I hope to continue to see what I like on a campus. I look for the way to incorporate it within posts and videos along with a way to study marketing and communications and be able to work on the school TV station. The reason my mom went on this trip, other than to look at the colleges is to see what kind of campus that I like.

I had always want to be in the city, to not miss out on the real world. But I realize maybe I should go to a college town to experience the real college life, sororities, football games and the everything else included.

Hopefully by this time next year, I will know what I want to do later in life and where I would be going. Until then, I will be living my senior year as much as I can. Because time is almost up and you have to enjoy as much as you can.

Review: Her Campus Book

Going to college may seem like the best four years of your life when you get to grow up, but at the same time, it is the scariest. Being a junior in high school has me thinking on where to go to school based on academics, the campus and the food. But it keeps me blinded about the other situations that I might face when I reach orientation.

Being an Her Campus High School Ambassador and apart of the Her Campus Blogger Network, I was excited to hear about their new book. It is not like those books where it tells you what is the better school, but rather how to get through college and become apart of the grown up world.

The Her Campus Guide to College gives more insight on how to create relationships, be aware of creepers, being healthy and how finding a job once graduation is over.

I love that this book shows real life situations and how to be able to handle them and not have it end like a Halloween episode of Pretty Little Liars. It is a great idea for parents to give to the growing children to give them guidance when transitioning to a higher level of school or college seniors ready to tackle the new world of finding a job. Share it with your friends and even share it with your grandmother who wants to get back into college.

Everyone can find help within this book and I promise that you will not gain the Freshmen 15. You will not regret getting this book as there is so much to know and prepare for, including the Sorority life and passing finals.

Find this book on Amazon and Barnes & Nobles. Check out Her Campus for more!

And I promise that it completes your college bookshelf (and your artsy dorm decor).

Thank you to Her Campus for partnering with me on this post. All opinions are my own.
