Surviving the First Day of School

(Please don’t be offended by my simile, it was kind of a joke)

If you aren’t close to me and haven’t heard my opinion of school well… High School is like the Hunger Games, where we are all forced to be there to torture each other until we are pretty much mentally dead. But school can be exciting in some ways other than my Hunger Games example, we can plan what we want for the future for whatever you plan to be or do in life, no matter what it was.

But that is was more into the future then we believe but now this is what we all have been waiting for… the first day of school. No one is excited for school and no one wants to be there earlier than the sun has peaked over the horizon, but sadly that is the way of life.

I have had so many first days, including that this will be my 6th school in the past 15 years, not including those years when I was in diapers, so I have had trouble on the first day which I know will change once I help you with my tips to stay alert during this time where everything will get back into order.

I know I am somewhat excited to not sit around all day and do nothing, as much as I love to do that, but that is all going to change drastically. So lets go on to what to do on the first day you get back!

  1. Make sure you get a good nights sleep, as much makeup can disguise those bags under your eyes in the morning, you don’t want to be falling asleep in the class with a very hard teacher.
  2. Make sure you have everything laid out, your backpack, lunch, supplies, outfit (or in my case a uniform) so you don’t miss a thing which is one of the worst things to deal with. Also make sure you leave your house as soon as possible because last year I learned (almost being a little late) that when everyone goes back to school, that means EVERYONE, so be prepared for the traffic.
  3. Be on top of everything. Make sure you got all the assignments for each class and even write down the little details so you won’t fail it.
  4. Make friends. I was always the shy, awkward person (still kind of am) so try to get a boost of confidence and meet someone new. Its always nice to know someone and its okay if it isn’t the whole school or the popular people. I learned that they don’t have to be your friend all year because they usually find others, so if they so make some other friends. I have found my great friends those who aren’t that popular and a little bit quirky, but they are awesome because I really like people who are different from others. And also you don’t always have to have a friend in each other your classes, I didn’t and I survived, kind of.
  5. Don’t bully each other, or try to ignore the bully. Pretty much everyone I have known has been effected by a bully, including me. I will never understand why people bully each other out loud instead of keeping it to yourself. Sometimes people don’t need to speak their opinions because if you said something bad about someone would you like that to be said towards you? We are all having a hard time so don’t make it hard and just because you say something that you think is meaningless doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt the person. You can get out of the person’s life all you want but they can’t change who they are, so don’t really force them to do anything harmful in anyway.
  6. Lockers are like the trickiest thing like to have ever exist but we have to learn to love them. They keep everything of yours in a place, so create the space your own. Make sure you don’t pen you locker, it may be a good trick to use in a hurry so you don’t have to use a combination, but make sure all your books are there because a few of mine were stolen last year. I will never understand why someone would want a Algebra 1 Textbook!
  7. Get involved! Get involved with the drama club, glee club, band, art club and maybe even football! Its a great way to make friends and be able to find who you are and who you want to be as a person.
  8. Be on top of everything! I mean school work wise. I am such a procrastinator when it comes to homework (like hello Tumblr and YouTube exist). Since I have so many activities after school this year, I need to get everything done and stay on track if I want to get anywhere in life.
  9. Sadly high school isn’t High School Musical so a heads up, please do not jump on top of cafeteria tables or burst out into song in a middle of a test as much as you want to. You could possibly go to detention.
  10. And just have fun! I know high school seems scary when you start, I am starting my sophomore year and its still scary for me, but its different for everyone. You can love it or hate it. Just hang out with friends, go to dances (most likely Homecoming), go to football games, do anything you have to do to have a good time and make sure its legal.

And for those of you have succeeded in reading all of that, I congratulate you and if you haven’t started already, I wish you a nice first day of school.

Love,
Elyse

P.S. If you and/or your friend(s) are scared for the first day, feel free to share this with them or on twitter, or facebook or what other social website you like!

Back to School Must Haves Uniform Edition

The first day of school is the first day for everything. It is like New Years Eve without all the fireworks and the snow. Sadly it is not that time of year and the summer is coming to end (cue emoticon with tears). The first day of school means everything, what you wear (from what I hear from a JCPenney commercial) kind of defines your whole year (or where you sit at lunch but that doesn’t really matter to me).

So the beginning of the school year is important because its a new everything, new kids, new teachers, new things to try and a brand new you. Ever since I have started this blog during my freshmen year, I have grown as a person for who I am and fashion and beauty wise. So this sophomore year, everything I do and wear will reflect on how much I am more confident on who I am (other than hiding my face with make up which doesn’t really matter, I guess).

I have been going to a private school for the past 4 years and of course I wear a uniform so the only time I can show who I am as a human being is my locker, my backpack and on dress down day (which isn’t that often). So as this year comes closer I am getting ready to show off some item that I believe are a must have.

As Teen Vogue has stated that these cute little ties are ready to become one of the hottest new accessories in the fashion world. You can style this piece anyway you want, around you neck to make it like a scarf or a headband. I have gotten something similar at Urban Outfitters but get this adorable one at Topshop !

To Be A Princess

Scrolling through my Facebook dash (hiding my Tumblr from my mom) and texting my best friend Maria, it seems like everyone has been going to Disney World, while I’m stuck in my boring little town of Maryland.

I started dreaming about the magical world of Disney with characters like Peter Pan and Snow White and far off places like Neverland and Wonderland. Then I got to thinking of the beautiful castles that light up at the night, the places where the princesses and princes stay and live. Since recently Belle and the Beast’s castle is now opened to the public, I wondered what it was like to be a princess, what exactly are the qualities.

Just last year I was a few of those who wanted to dress up as a princess for Princess Teddy Bear Tea Party, sadly I wasn’t picked but I learned a little from the experience.

To Be a Princess:

  • You are not perfect, you don’t have to look like all the models in the magazine or don’t have to wear the pounds of make up you see on other girls.
  • Make mistakes means learning from them.
  • Falling down doesn’t mean its the end, you will always have bad times.
  • Get through the tough times strong.
  • Be someone you would want to be.
  • Believe in yourself no matter what you go through.
  • Be unique.
  • Stand up for your beliefs.

You are you and do not change anything about yourself because being you is perfect.

I had found this video from Disney which is hopefully more inspiring by 10000000000000% then I wrote above. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it and inspire you to like it inspired me too.

Inspiration Board

I do not own this!
I do not own this!

Diclaimer: I do not own the picture! It was from Lauren Conrad’s Instagram and I was just too lazy to take a picture of mine!

If maybe Pinterest really isn’t your thing but you wanna keep all those pretty things together, what do you do? Start an inspiration board! Recently I have been scrolling mindlessly through Tumblr and Instagram and YouTube which is such a normal thing that I usually maybe every 5 seconds! So recently I have discovered MacBarbie07 on YouTube and I literally am OBSESSED with her! Not the creepy obsessed like I’m a stalker and… well I mean I like her fashion, videos and DIY.

I had watched her roomspiration video and I found this really cool room idea since I have recently moved this past summer and I have finally got my own room without living in a rented home so I can actually Elyseify my room! (And yes Elyseify is word, but sadly the Oxford people haven’t heard of it to put it in the dictionary). She had printed out pictures that she really liked and was going to stick them on her wall in the shape of a heart. If you want to do that, well that sounds really fun! I have also noticed that my friend Sam has an inspiration board on her notebook and maybe Lauren Conrad does too, she had it on Instagram.

If you don’t know what an Inspiration Board, its a place where you put pictures that you love and give you this happy and giddly feeling and you are inspire by it.

Since I have magazines since May 2012 and its February 2013, it was time to do a clean out. I have started what I called my “magazine” sometime last year but I never got up to date with it. So I had cut out the pictures and articles that I liked and then threw away the old magazines (even including the One Direction ones, tear).

To Elyseify my room, I have looked online and have saved pictures from Instagram and Tumblr to a folder which was originally for photoshoot ideas since for Christmas I have gotten a Canon (my new baby!) and was hoping to take very artsy pictures. I was thinking once I get ink in my printer I was going to print the pictures and stick them on my walls so my room doesn’t look like a boring white blob.

My tips to find pictures is like maybe Google, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram and maybe even your like pages on Facebook (or is that dead yet). Try to either put the pictures on your wall, a scrap book, a notebook, a bulletin board or even your locker and it will be very funky and cool and give you that giddly feeling!

So get creative with it!

Coming UP!

Hi since you’ve noticed I changed it from Wanderlust to Alis Chic, I did not like the url and I wanted something different, like using the name the workers that wrote on my first coffee ever from Starbucks. I have been busy with high school and midterms are coming up but so is winter break and here is what I hope to have up during break and next year.

  • More Tutorials
  • More about clothes and trends
  • Make Up
  • Nail Art
  • Book and Movie Reviews
  • Make my own clothing
  • Interview people (trying to start next year with one of my favorite British actress if Iget the courage to ask her)
  • More Pictures
  • My writings
  • and more if I could think of any
  • Or high school experiences
  • And there will be a Christmas Post coming soon!

Stay Tuned

Striped Nails

53742a8626a011e29fe522000a1f97ce_5As I wait for my friend and new co-worker finish her Nail Art article, I feel like I should do one of my own. I know I should be doing my essay for biology right now, but this is more fun.

Materials:
OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Mermaid Tears Nail Polish (Can use whatever you want, but I chose this)
Silver Nail Polish
Tape
Scissors

Step 1: Cut tiny pieces of tape (I didn’t do that before I started so it was kinda tricky). Make sure not to stick them on yet.

Step 2: Paint 1 or 2 layers of the nailpolish on your fingers (in my case it was the Mermaid Tears nail polish).

Step 3: Wait for the polish to dry and then place tape over the dried polish, try to make designs. I made stripes and tried a diamond but it did not work out that well than I hoped for. Make sure the tape extends over the nail so its easy to take off after next step.

Step 4: Paint the silver polish over the fingers including the tap.

Step 5: Peel off tape (can do it when the polish is dry, I didn’t because I was too excited).

Step 6: ENJOY!
